OUR HISTORY
In 1985, the Government of India came up with a plan to create an aided school for the differently-abled/challenged at the Beggars Home, Virar (East). Our Shree Trust was the only one that stepped forward and took up the challenging task, even though time was short.
Under the stewardship of Dr. Mohan S. Mankikar, the school was inaugurated on 31st October 1985 by H. H. Shrimat Parijnanashram Swamiji III and blessed by Him in the presence of Shri M. C. Narsimhan, the then Joint Secretary – Ministry of Social Welfare, Govt of India, Dr. A. K. Mukherjee, the then Director of R.R.T.C., Mumbai and Late Shri H. G. Vartak, Minister of Revenue, Government of Maharashtra. The event was attended by 40 prominent dignitaries from various countries who were in Bombay to attend a function on the occasion of World Disabled Day.
To start with, the school was provided with a barrack on a temporary basis. The school continued in this barrack for about a year or so. The student strength increased subsequently and the Government of India provided half an acre of land in the District Rehabilitation Centre (DRC) premises on a 25-year lease. Expecting the Lease Deed to be extended, Shree Trust constructed a permanent building with Ground+2 floors to house the school for disabled students. The Ground Floor of the building was inaugurated by Late Smt. Rajkumari Bajpai, the then Minister for Social Welfare, Government of India, at an event presided over by Dr. Mrs. Lalita Rao, the then Minister for Health, Government of Maharashtra, in the presence of the guest Mrs. Tarabai Vartak, Ex-Minister of Social Welfare, Government of Maharashtra. The First and Second floors were inaugurated by Dr. A. K. Mukherjee, the then Director General of Health Service, in the presence of Shri K. K. Desai, the then Charity Commissioner of Maharashtra. However, the lease was not extended and Shree Trust eventually moved out after purchasing new premises.
